Trackpad not working at all
- Check the touchpad key. Many laptops have an F-key with a touchpad icon that turns it off. On HP laptops, double-tap the top-left corner of the touchpad.
- Check Windows settings: open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad and turn Touchpad on. Tick Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected.
- Restart the computer.
- Reinstall the driver: in Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices (or Human Interface Devices), right-click the touchpad, select Uninstall device, and restart.
- Check the BIOS: make sure the touchpad is enabled.
Cursor jumps or clicks on its own
- Clean the touchpad and make sure your hands are dry.
- Lower the sensitivity: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad > Taps, then set Touchpad sensitivity to Low sensitivity.
- Unplug the charger and test. Some chargers cause erratic movement.
- Update the touchpad driver and BIOS (article 66).
Gestures not working? Turn on Three-finger gestures and Four-finger gestures in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
Stop using the laptop and contact us if the touchpad is raised, won't click, or the case is lifting. This can mean a swollen battery underneath.
