First-time setup: personal or work/school

Your computer starts at the Windows welcome screen as if new, with no previous user accounts. Setup takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including updates.

1. Choose Australia as your region and US as your keyboard layout. Skip adding a second layout.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
3. When asked how you'd like to set up the device, choose Set up for personal use. Only choose work or school if your employer's IT team has told you to.
4. Sign in with a Microsoft account or create a new one
5. Once you reach the desktop, open Settings > Windows Update and install all updates. This also installs your device's drivers.
