Windows needs free space to run well and install updates. Keep at least 25% of your C: drive free.
See what's using space: open Settings > System > Storage.
Free up space safely
- Cleanup recommendations: in Storage, select Cleanup recommendations and remove what's listed.
- Temporary files: select Temporary files, tick everything except Downloads (unless you've checked it), and select Remove files.
- Storage Sense: turn it on to clear temporary files and empty the Recycle Bin automatically.
- Uninstall apps you don't use: Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Old Windows update files: search for Disk Cleanup, select Clean up system files, then tick Windows Update Cleanup.
Move files off the computer
- OneDrive: right-click a folder and choose Free up space. Files stay in the cloud and download when you open them.
- External drive: move photos and videos, which usually take the most space.
Need more space? Our East Brisbane store can fit a larger SSD for most models.
