What's normal for a refurbished screen
- A few minor dead pixels are acceptable within the grade.
- Light marks that you can only see when the screen is off are within the Grade A and Grade B standards.
- Flickering, lines across the screen, and dark or bright patches are not normal.
Is it the screen or Windows?
Restart and watch the maker's logo screen as the computer starts, or connect an external monitor.
| What you see | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| The fault also shows on the logo screen or BIOS | Screen or cable hardware |
| The fault shows only once Windows has loaded | Display driver or setting |
| An external monitor looks fine but the laptop screen doesn't | The laptop's screen or its cable |
| Flickering changes when you move the lid | The screen cable in the hinge |
Fixes for software flicker
- Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the graphics driver.
- Update the graphics driver with your maker's driver tool (article 66).
- Set the refresh rate: Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, then choose 60 Hz or the highest rate listed.
- Turn off brightness adjustment: Settings > System > Display > Brightness, then turn off Change brightness based on content and Change brightness automatically.
- Check if one app causes it: open Task Manager. If Task Manager flickers too, it's the driver. If only one app flickers, update or reinstall that app.
Contact us if the fault shows on the logo screen, changes when you move the lid, or you see lines, dark patches or growing marks. Within 30 days of delivery we'll arrange a return. After that, it's covered under warranty unless the screen has been damaged.
